About

Rockhampton Regional Council, Queensland Resources Council, Rockhampton Tourist & Business Information, and CQUniversity have joined together to stage the Queensland Resources Expo (QREX) in Rockhampton on 20 - 23 July 2009.

QREX was launched to support the Queensland resources industry through the provision of a platform for trade and networking.  It provides an apportunity to Rockhampton businesses to display their products and services, and will also showcase Queensland’s resources industry as a whole both nationally and internationally.

QREX also has the objective of providing education on the resources industry, highlighting the many career opportunities available including opportunities for students and women looking to enter this dynamic industry.

At the inaugural QREX in 2007, 230 exhibitors displayed a diverse range of goods and a services for the resources sector, cementing the event on the Australian mining industry calendar.  QREX 2007 also highlighted the depth of the contribution which Rockhampton makes to Central Queensland’s resource industries.

The expo will feature a range of integrated activities relating to mining, minerals processing and energy generation industries including:

  • One day international conference
  • Trade Fair, now part of the Reed Exhibitions calendar of national mining events
  • Australian Resources Careers Market involving companies and education providers involved in the resources industry, and which will include the Australian Resources Careers Martket
  • Industry tours to sites such as Bowen Basin mines, power plants, minerals processing plants in Rockhampton and Gladstone, and manufacturing and service plants in both cities
  • Seminars, workshops and training for industry participants
  • Resources’ familiarisation activities for primary, secondary and tertiary students and women
  • Gala industry dinner
  • Structured networking for resource operators and those involved in the supply chain
  • Regional celebration and social activities

QREX will provide a forum at which potential users of Queensland’s resources services can make contact with potential resource suppliers and service providers.

It will also include an international reception centre, specifically to facilitate trade in commodities in addition to services tailored to the resource industries.

Conference topics and tours will focus on industry challenges, including the implementation of clean coal technologies, both in Australia and possibly in those countries with which we trade in resources and their supporting technologies.

Trade Fair

QREX will also include a trade fair which is being organised by Reed Exhibitions and will include local, state and national businesses providing goods and services to the Queensland resource industries.

Australian Resources Careers Market

The ARCM will help provide information to students and other key stakeholders about the ways in which the resource industries operate to encourage them to consider a career in the resource industries.

The ARCM will also develop and generate a greater understanding of the role played by resource industries among Australians generally.
