Energy For The Future Inspires CQ Students

The Energy For the Future workshop will take place on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 July as part of the Australian Resources Careers Market. The workshop will encourage Year 11 & 12 students to work in teams to consider solutions to future energy problems and consider traditional and alternative means of energy generation. Full details

The workshop is presented by CQUniversity Australia and the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy, with support from the Gladstone Centre for Clean Coal and QREX.

Groundbreaking woman recognised for resource sector achievements

A Gladstone woman who had to fight legislation that prevented women from working in underground mines has been recognised for her significant contribution to the minerals and energy sector in Queensland.

Sandra Collins, one of only two women to have managed a mine in Queensland, was today awarded the prestigious Resources Award for Women (RAW) by Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland Ms Penelope Wensley AO.

The awards are presented annually by the Queensland Resources Council, the peak body for the state’s resources sector at its International Women’s Day breakfast in Brisbane.

The event attracted more than 500 people from throughout the state’s resource sector regions.

Timely confidence boost for resources communities

MORANBAH: The Queensland Resources Council has welcomed the first round of funding under the Sustainable Resource Communities Agreement, announced today by Premier Anna Bligh.

QRC Chief Executive Michael Roche said the commitment of almost $27 million to community infrastructure projects for the Bowen Basin was timely news for the region amid economic uncertainty created by the global financial crisis.

Sad day for Queensland as GFC bites harder

The loss of another 1400 jobs from Queensland’s resources sector has driven home the harsh reality of the global financial crisis, Queensland Resources Council Chief Executive Michael Roche said today.

‘The job cuts announced by BHP Billiton - the world’s biggest mining company - emphasise the extent of the global recession and the challenges ahead for Queensland and Australia,’ he said.
