School competition showcases Central Queensland students to future employers

3rd May, 2007

Central Queensland schools are invited to participate in four School Skill Competitions as part of the Queensland Resources Expo (QREX) to be held in Rockhampton from 23 to 26 May.

While the competition will enhance the knowledge of the students participating, it will also showcase the schools and give both parents and teachers the opportunity to discuss career options for the students with the employers from the large, medium and small businesses in Central Queensland.

QREX Event Director Rick Palmer says the competition offers opportunities for students from grade five to 12 to display their work at QREX which will be attended by the major employees of the region, including not only the miners, but also the agricultural sector, local, state and federal government representatives, as well as local businesses and educational institutions.

The competition aims to increase the knowledge of school children about the many resources and associated businesses driving the economy of Central Queensland. These include mining, mineral processing, water and energy which are the key focus of the QREX Conference and Expo.

Prizes will not only be awarded to the individual students who win their respective categories, but also to the schools which they are representing. All prizes have been supplied by Webbers Retravision.
