International Industry Conference

The International Industry Conference featured themes of particular interest to international and local delegates. Offering delegates insights into emerging low-emissions technology, coal seam methane and climate change, the keynote speakers included Hon Martin Ferguson AM MP, Australian Minister for Resources and Energy and Minister for Tourism; Michael Roche, Chief Executive, Queensland Resources Council; Nick Otter, Acting Chief Executive, The Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute; and Cr Brad Carter, Mayor of Rockhampton Regional Council.

A centre of education and inspiration, the Australian Resources Careers Market (ARCM) offered the general public the chance to find out more about the resources industry. Information on why the industry is so important to our region and community was available alongside a showcase of careers, training and education options within the resources sector and opportunities to investigate employment opportunities now and into the future.
Open to all and featuring workshops, forums and displays, the ARCM complemented the Trade Exhibition as a centre of learning and opportunity.
Industry tours

Furthering delegates’ understanding of the conference themes and topics, the QREX Industry Tours, conducted around Central Queensland to Gladstone, Stanwell Power Station and QMAG, delegates witnessed new technology and had a chance to talk with managers onsite about the future of resources production in Australia.

Australian Resources Conference

QREX 09 concluded with a second half-day conference examining challenges facing the resources sector, the region and Queensland.
Strong resource sector growth has benefitted Queensland in the 21st century and if it is to continue, the forward-looking and timely delivery of ‘hard’ and ’soft’ infrastructure will be critical, particularly in light of rapid transformation of the coal seam gas industry.
Q150 QREX Luncheon and Official Closing Ceremony

High-level Queensland Government representatives, sponsors, VIPs and special guests were present at the celebratory Q150 QREX Lunch.
Social Activities and Community Events
A range of social events for networking in a relaxed atmosphere and community celebrations for exploring and enjoying Rockhampton. Events included an official Welcome Function , the QREX Rodeo and Dinner, Champions Brock Experience and a Q150 closing lunch. Events were open to all visitors, exhibitors and members of the general public.
